Top Five Geese Types, and Their Attributes

I have no experience with geese. I've only met a small handful of geese in my entire life. Despite my inexperience and lack of connection to the animal, I remain a fervent, yet distant, admirer of their excellence. There are many types (some better than others). I've crafted my own list of the best geese, in order to gather my own thoughts on the matter, as well as teach others of them. Here are the top five geese variations:

1 .    Canadian Goose

Here, one stands, presumably overlooking the inferior geese.

Looking at its black-and-white majesty, it is no wonder why the Canada Goose- frequently seen in North America- has earned the top ranking for geese. These crowd-pleasers, affectionately known as “honkers”, are most well-known for their harmony. The “V” has become a symbol of familial strength, unity, and cooperation, to all who witness their migratory flight.

2 .    Toulouse Goose

Following closely behind the Canada Goose, is the Toulouse Goose- a popular French breed, known for its large size, and soft gray color. Unlike the loud Canada Goose, the Toulouse Goose is a quiet, tranquil bird (making them a popular choice for pets). Overall, the Toulouse Goose is an elegant creature, but remains a gray shadow in the boldness of the Canada Goose.

3 .       American Buff Goose

Upon seeing an American Buff Goose for the first time, my first thought was, "What a pretty goose lady." It is true- the American Buff is one lovely goose. I chose to include it in the Top 5 Best Geese of All Time for this reason. It sports an elegant fawn color (sometimes with apricot undertones), with pinkish-orange accents on the beak and feet. Breeding communities also commend these birds for their exceptional mothering abilities.

4 .       Chinese Goose

To be honest, the sole reason for this goose's high ranking is its nose-bump. Without the prominent bump, I never would have noticed it in a flock of geese. There isn't much else to say about it; it is of a domestic breed, commonly used as livestock.

A well-displayed bump on one goose.

      5 .       Snow Goose

Here is one is enjoying a bit of grass.

You have to admire a small, white goose like this one. Its size and color are perfect for its icy Arctic surroundings. This is a well-rounded goose, perfect for capping off our list.
